About the art:
The original concept features a butterfly symbolizing resurrection or great transformation, embodying endurance, change, hope, and life. It is merged with France’s flag, culture, and historical elements.

Decorated with several floral patterns, the artwork contains a rich amount of detail, with elements of France integrated into the composition.

The number 486 represents the year when France was officially unified. The official motto, “Liberté, égalité, fraternité”(“Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”), is included. The Gallic Rooster (French: le coq gaulois), an unofficial national symbol of France, is depicted on the mail stamp and on the butterfly’s wings. The three fleur-de-lis (France’s national flower) represent the King, the Church, and the people.
