Original concept of a butterfly that symbolizes resurrection or great transformation with the sentiment of endurance, change, hope, and life, it is merged with Japan’s flag and culture.

Decorated with several Japanese patterns, Tokyophilus is representing the beautiful country of Japan with many meaningful details of Japanese Culture.

The official name Tokyo Metropolis (東京都 Tōkyō-to) can be seen on the right side and underneath the word “Japan” (日本国) in red, symbolizing a traditional way for the author or creator to sign her/his name. In this case, Japan is the author or creator of Tokyo.

Several symbols of Japan can found in several places in artwork, like the Official Symbol of Tokyo found in the Tokyophilus’ head.

The wing contains different traditional patterns mixed and a pattern inside a pattern. A portion of the wing represent Sensu (hand fan) that in Japanese culture is a symbol of prosperity.

The intricate original Japanese pattern background contains the image of Torii de Miyajima.

The Tokyophilus is shaped after the national butterfly of Japan, Sasakia Charonda (オオムラサキ): Great Purple Emperor. In this case has the color of the Japanese flag.
